Totally Geeked is a monthly feature at Professional Geek Podcast's blog where you'll get an inside look at what our staff are geeking out about today.

This month of October, I have unsurprisingly become reacquainted and totally geeked with all things spooky! I grew up as a spooky teen in the late 90s and early 2000s, so I've been watching horror movies and horror tv shows since I can remember. Between rewatching classic loves like The X-Files and Poltergeist and finding new horror movies like The Veil, this year has been a real trip.
I was really pleased to become reacquainted with Open Grave, The Bay, Grave Encounters, and The Blair Witch Project, which are all some of my favorite horror movies to date. There's something to be said about revisiting old favorites, because often there are small but delicious details that you missed the first time around, which make a well made film that much more impressive. To top it all off, I've been doing a lot of arts and crafts with fake skeletons, pumpkins, ghosts and ghouls. It really has been a wonderful October for this spooky kid.
There are still four full days left of October, so tweet at me if you have any suggestions for good horror as I count down the days to my favorite day of the year: Halloween!

There are 98 other players on this plane with me. They all want to kill me. One of them most likely will. My only hope is that I can take out as many of them as I can along the way to my inevitable demise. I mark my spot on the map and and out I go, parachuting into another match of my current video game obsession PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds.
PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds, is a “realistic” military based shooter that drops 99 players onto an abandoned island. The object is to land, find a weapon, and be the last player standing. Imagine The Hunger Games and you’re pretty close to the mark. As the players land and begin to explore the wide array of environments that the one island has to offer, they are not only constantly under threat from the other players, but also an ever constricting battlefield as a slowly constricting field of electricity will spell death for any unfortunate players caught outside of it’s boundaries.
PUBG, as it is known in it’s incredibly active community, is not the sort of game that I should like. The more realistic leaning video game shooters have always been a little beyond my grasp. However, there is something about the tense situations generated by being the prey of 98 other bloodthirsty players. What I really find engaging about this game is that while gun skills certainly will carry the day, it is quite possible to succeed in this game by relying on stealth and navigation as you play this giant game of cat and mouse.

Those sweet boys over at My Brother, My Brother, and Me have really done a number on me over the last two months. In fact, this Totally Geeked was originally what I was going to write about in September, but it’s equally if not more true in October, and probably will be for a long time to come.
Their brand of irreverent, family inspired, inside joke heavy content was a real surprise to me. I'm admittedly late to the party; my introduction to their unique brand of comedy started accidentally when I subscribed to Polygon on YouTube and immediately fell in love with Giffin’s and Justin’s goofs. (See above; Awful Squad is Justin, Griffin, and two other Polygon editors playing PUBG.) I had been avoiding My Brother, My Brother, and Me, because the elevator pitch of "3 brothers read advice and joke about bad Yahoo answers questions" sounded like a bad and generic podcast, but after hearing the brothers joke about video games, I had to check it out. A year and a half of back episodes later, I needed more, and found myself watching their 6 episode TV show, and listening to the entirety of The Adventure Zone, the podcast they do with their dad where they play Dungeons and Dragons.
Better late than never, though, I say! It sometimes feels like this show was made specifically for me. MBMBaM is one of my weekly podcasts now, and I’m subscribed to a lot more of their content streams. Their vocabulary and humor has seeped its way into my own vocabulary and humor, and I’m very pleased I get to hang out with these good good boys every week.
